I remember Litchi entering my life 7 years ago. He was with his brothers and sisters at the petshop. I had gone near the cage and one had come forth towards me with no qualms. Asked if it were a boy or girl and wanted a girl as I had had a girl bun before.
They indicated so and then we took off on our journey only to find out a month or two later he was a boy. I was embarassed cause I had been treating him like a girl but in no time understood it didn’t matter, he had a mind of his own. There was no place he wouldn’t dare not explore. His second night with us, my ex screamed in panic when she heard his scream and couldn’t find him. He was somehow tucked away in an area and trapped and couldn’t get out.
From then on I knew he was a conquer bun. There was no such thing as too much sugar for Litchi nor was there no place he couldn’t hop onto. As he matured he’d became quite set in his own ways that I loved and looked forward to. He loved travelling and was very independent when left alone. It made it easier for me as I had to begin travelling and being away for work for weeks and months on end.
I wasn’t surprised that he ended up bonding with and conquering my Dad’s heart during a babysitting trip and moved in with him for better stability and care. He spent another 5 glorious years with my Dad and I travelled every chance I could to spend weekends and especially Bunday Sundays with him. As his health issues ebbed and flowed he fought through them with an undaunted spirit and never ever gave up. Always fought through and kept on.
He loves to snuggle under the sheets with me and get head and ear massages. Never complains and I suspect enjoyed a good bottom bath. Loves his banana’s, mango, yogi bites and anything that’s sweet. I suppose
I was very lucky to have had the last 60 days with him during the Corona Quarantine. Hadn’t had the time like this with him since he was a baby bun. We spent our days in terrace getting Sunshine rays and blessings of Frith, cuddling in the sheets watching Netflix and falling into our routine that I thought would last forever.
But yesterday came. It started off like any Saturday and I resolved to give you bottom bath and spend the day lazing in the sun drying. But it was not to be. You knew it and spent the next 10hrs with me as I sang to you and pleaded with God to keep you with me for some more time. Litchi as always was fearless as the energy left but he kept consoling me by nibbling on his treats and looking at me with no fear but serenity.
As you got weaker and limper I kept bargaining with the universe that it wasn’t our time to be parted. When I went for water and came back…you gave me my last panic attack by not being in your spot, only to find you on the other side hunched by my laptop.
With all your energy you got up to follow and just didn’t want me to go. I tried bargaining more with the universe that it wasn’t our time yet to be parted. But as I gazed on you being calm & serene, I knew you were glad I was there in this moment. As you passed on, it was with a yawn and a gasp and I wish I could relive all the 7years with you again. Thank you for being there for me in very bad times and the best of times. You made me happy and gave me something to look forward to every day.
It’s been less than half a day and less than a hour since you passed and I laid you down. I don’t know what I will do now without you always there. I know you’re indelibly etched on the slate of my heart but I don’t think I’ve come to terms yet. You’re all around this room.
But everytime I fall into despair I’m reassured you didn’t leave me in anything but happiness and peace and love.
I will always talk to you and I’ll come see you at the rainbow bridge. Till then let Mom, Buchi, Simba, Rajhee, Raja and Picasa keep you company. I have loads of your treats and nibbles. I’ll make sure they get to a good bunneh conqueror like you.
I miss you so much. Its Sunday Bunday today and will always be.
I love you litchilu.
